Wine #2
Cardinal Point Vineyard, Afton, Virginia
Rockfish Red 2008
Well, I had high hopes for this wine. One of the best Chardonnays we have ever had was from Afton, Virginia. Rivaled only by Stonington Vineyards, Stonington, CT. I think it is the altitude (read good cool mornings) that helps in Afton appellation.
This was good after it breathed. And, it really needed to breath!
While I couldn't find the Rockfish Red Table Wine on their website, I did notice that they had twice as many whites as reds. Yep. Afton is a great producer of whites .... this red was fun to try, but not on my "must have again" list.
Cheers!

Wine #1
Tarara Winery, Long-Bomb, Edition Two, Virginia 2008
Red Table Wine
A dear friend of ours gave us a case of Virginia Wines. Sweet! What makes it even more special is "Learn more about wine" is #2 on my list of New Year's Resolutions (NYR). So, for lunch today the dh and I broke open bottle #1.
My first impression is awesome - a screw cap! And, I DO mean that. I am a convert. I think plastic corks are great and screw caps are even better. They preserve the wine so much better.
As for taste...well, God bless them, it is a red Virginia table wine. That means....well, a blend of ???? From ???? vineyard????
But, in all, not a bad wine. The website says it retails for $20. Not sure if I agree with that price point.
So, a good start to the new year. A good wine and I am already on my way to accomplishing NYR #2!!!!
